A Brief Update

Hi all! It’s been over a month since I last posted, and I wanted to share a brief update.

Since my last post on August 18th, I traveled to Spain with a group of my incoming Booth classmates, traveled throughout Michigan with a different group of classmates, moved into my new apartment, completed new student orientation, and began my Fall Quarter classes. It has been an incredibly fun but busy month.

As things start to settle down a bit and I get into a regular cadence with my classes, I hope to revisit the research I was conducting. There were a couple more topics I wanted to explore, but given my crowded schedule, I think it is ambitious of me to believe that I can sink my full effort into all the different research I want to conduct while also managing a full schedule of classes, clubs, and internship recruiting.

That being said, in my opinion the most intriguing topic that I still have yet to address is “what makes a successful streamer”. I want to publish a survey that will allow me to analyze correlations between streamer characteristics (e.g. personality traits, variety in games played, hours / times streamed throughout the week) and streamer success (e.g. consistent viewership growth, customer loyalty in the form of repeat viewership / donations / subscriptions). Identifying what specifically is tied to the success of a streamer could enable aspiring streamers to hone their content in order to achieve more success. It might also help esports organizations and streaming platforms alike in the identification of good up-and-coming content creators to sign.

My hope is that over the next couple months, I’ll have the time to work on this analysis in bits and pieces when I have rare free time. Hopefully I have some more fascinating data to share with you in the near future, but until then, take care and thank you for reading!
